Description
Fire object for closed structures
300,000 years of learning and observing have resulted in human control of lighting and extinguishing fire. Today, domesticated fire is part of our daily life, in the form of candles, lighters, and bonfires. It seems that the connection between man and one of the forces of nature takes us back to the wild and basic places we came from. The appearance of fire can be both spectacular and threatening, as well as a meeting place for people. In the project Controlled Fire, fire is the means as well as the outcome. I pressed clay in wooden molds and entrusted it to the bonfire, to burn and caress as it pleases. The ceramicware that the fire and I designed together holds values of power play and random beauty. Under constant supervision, we will set the ceramicware on fire with tongs and combustible material, stare, relax, and talk deep into the night.
The process of burning within the ceramic-ware, designed together by the fire and the artist, embodies both control and freedom. Under constant supervision, fire is set in the ceramic ware while people gaze, relax and talk deep into the night.
