Waste is an inseparable part of daily life, it has a great influence on our sustainable and financial life. 37% represents the percentage of paper and cardboard (which is also paper) being thrown away by an annual measure of the Israeli ministry of
environmental protection. Paper is one of the most popular materials in the home and industrial use. It poses a large percentage of the waste map, both by weight and volume.
This work aims to stimulate a positive awareness towards available material consumption, shine a meaningful light on them and a potential to create something new.
According to a pie chart poll conducted in 2022, I cut and mapped the types of paper that are being thrown away from home use. I used the plisse paper residue from the fashion industry and sawed fans in the smocking method, borrowed from the fashion industry as well. These fans depicted the various types of paper- baking paper, newspaper, cardboard and many more.
The construction is made of recycled plywood- its shape influenced by the shape of local trees and flowers and their translation to an urban garden.
The fans are being held by aluminum profile residue I collected from factories around Tel Aviv.
The work was presented in ‘Ha Tchiya 14’ complex in Tel Aviv- that used to act
as a local industry center, responsible for many construction projects for the
city of Tel Aviv. Today a vast variety of industries is hosted in this complex-
from high to low tech. 37% is an example combination of all these industries and
was created to liven up the ‘Ha Tchiya’ street for a greener, more sustainable industry.
